Registered Massage Therapist and Personal Trainer

Education and Work Experience

Since graduating from the Sutherland-Chan School of Massage Therapy with a specialty in sports massage, Droughan has been successfully practicing as a Registered Massage Therapist (‘RMT’) in downtown Toronto for over 10 years. His primary focus has been on sports massage therapy, including rehabilitation and remedial exercises in a variety of settings. Droughan works with many clients via GoodLife Gyms and Multidisciplinary Clinics alongside Physiotherapists, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, and Naturopaths. He utilizes dynamic and active release techniques, as well as traditional Swedish massage to help with pain relief, relaxation and mental focus.

Self Care

Droughan believes strongly in self-care for his RMT clients and will prescribe exercises to be done outside of the clinic, alongside RMT. Using stretching and breathing techniques for tight muscles, strengthening exercises using TheraBands, weights or bodyweight (calisthenics) exercises to help with muscle imbalances, he finds that clients with the highest recovery rate are highly involved in their own recovery. Hydrotherapy could also be used with either hot, cold or a combination of the two to promote blood flow for chronic injuries as well as reduce inflammation for acute injuries.

Personal Training

After working at GoodLife as an RMT and seeing the benefits of strength training with his clients, Droughan became a Canadian Fitness Professionals Inc. (canfitpro) certified personal trainer and has been offering personal training for over five years. In the gym, he has become educated on all of the compound straight bar lifts such as the squat, deadlift, shoulder press, bench press as well as Olympic weightlifting. He is also in-tune with maximizing clients’ capabilities and allowing a newcomer to feel comfortable in a gym environment, using kettlebells, dumbbells, cable machines, TheraBands and calisthenics.

Other Interests

Droughan has a third degree black belt in Shotokan karate and is a member of the 1999 gold medal winning sparring team. He has rekindled his love of tennis over the past 10 years and plays throughout the year. His personal hobbies over the last few years have been becoming a proficient (albeit sporadic) knitter, completing hats, scarves and recently socks, among other various other related projects.
